On 8 June 2024, Romania will run in a mountain beat at the msg Apuseni Marathon 2024, organized by the Romanian Alpine Club Cluj Branch. More than 1500 runners are expected at the START of the race in Buscat, Băișoara commune, Cluj county. The competition trails stand out in the landscape of trail races in the country by the type of mountain landscape crossed, unique in Europe. Since trail running combines the love of nature, freedom and the desire for self-improvement, the competition in Apuseni brings together runners from different corners of the world every year.

Since the first edition in 2011, the msg Maraton Apuseni adventure is above all a discovery of one’s own physical and mental strength, as well as an opportunity to spend unique moments running along the idyllic trails in the heart of the Apuseni Mountains. Here time seems to slow down and the soul is charged with pure energy from the beauty of nature.

The ultra-marathon, marathon, half-marathon and mountain cross-country routes cross, as appropriate, protected habitats of European Community interest, the Scarița-Belioara geo-botanical reserve, alpine hollows in the Muntele Mare massif, stretches flanked by molasses and rocky outcrops.

With just a few days to go until the start on 8 June, adrenaline is starting to build among participants and online registration is open until 26 May. It’s time for all adventure-seekers to join the country’s most beloved trail competition.

The story begins at Buscat Ski & Summer Resort – Baisoara, a charming place well known to the people of Cluj. Here, on 8 June, participants will be greeted with enthusiasm and eagerness to run by the organisers, over 120 volunteers and their supporters!

msg Maraton Apuseni 2024 offers a variety of routes, suitable for both beginners and experienced runners:

  • The Garmin 10 km long cross country run for those who want to experience trail running in a friendly atmosphere and authentic community.
  • Banca Transilvania Half Marathon, a 23.7km challenge suitable for those looking to test their endurance and explore the beauty of nature in a mountain running race worthy of adding to their CV as it accumulates D+ 1190m. The race is also part of the UTMB Index Race series, and its completion attracts 1 ITRA point.
  • The .msg Marathon, with a distance of 44.8 km, is for runners looking for a more intense challenge, over a distance of 2531 m. The race is also part of the UTMB Index Race series and its completion attracts 2 ITRA points.
  • For the truly brave and adventure-seeking, there is the ultra-marathon event, with an impressive 89.2 km distance and D+ 4539 m, reserved for those with a track record of mountain running over very long distances. The race is also part of the UTMB Index Race series, and its completion attracts 4 ITRA points.
  • For the little ones, there is the Family Gerovital race, a race of approx. 2 km, dedicated to children and parents, who can share their passion for running in a safe and enjoyable environment.

Each route is set up with feeding and hydration points, supervised by dedicated volunteers and specialist mountain safety teams, ensuring every runner enjoys a rewarding and safe experience.
