For objective reasons, the 12th edition of the msg Apuseni Marathon brings some changes to the trail running routes of the event. Thus, we announce changes to the ultramarathon, marathon, BT half marathon, Garmin Cross and Family Decathlon race courses.
What’s new in this year’s Apuseni Marathon routes? They are entirely new areas that hikers like: quieter, closer to nature. And yes, new places! No more Buscat climbs, but don’t be fooled, it won’t get any easier!
Changes Of The Ultramarathon Race Course In 2023
As you have come to expect, the Ultramarathon consists of two loops with roughly equal technical parameters. The first loop, the night loop, with a time limit of 8h, is however very special this year because it introduces a challenge: the ascent of Muntele Mare – the third highest peak (1826m) in the Apuseni Mountains. The second loop, which we hope you will complete well within the final time limit of 18h, is the Marathon loop. Beware, the marathon loop also has new elements, it’s good when you call your memory to have confirmation on the new track too!

Changes Of The Marathon Race Course In 2023
A new section is introduced, surrounding the Boului Mountain, going from the Tisa Valley to the Boului Valley. Why they call the latter that is for you to discover for yourself. Being on the climb, let your imagination run wild!
What we had to keep? Obviously, the ascent of the Pietrele Marunte at the end and the circuit in the Scarița-Belioara reserve.

Changes Of The BT Halfmarathon Race Course In 2023
A new half marathon section is also introduced, which goes around the Boulder Mountain, passing from the Tisa Valley to the Boulder Valley.
The climb up the Pietrele Maruntes at the end is retained. Also in terms of structure, as in previous editions, the route of the Half Marathon is common with sections 1 and 4 of the Marathon, linked together with a 2 km “break” between the PC points above Știolne and PC Bocșești.

Changes of The Garmin Cross Race Course In 2023
Did you find the former start difficult with running uphill on Buscat? And also the last four kilometres of the final climb? Did you want to walk the picturesque path through the junipers on the Pietrele Mărunte like the runners in the longer distance races?
This year all these wishes came true! The route is even slightly shorter, but we can no longer pronounce the word easy when we refer to the elevation gain.
