msg Apuseni Marathon is a mountain running sports competition organized by Clubul Sportiv Alpin Universitar and Clubul Alpin Român Secția Universitară Cluj. The competition consists of 5 races: the ultramarathon (70km total length), the marathon (43,7km total length),  the half marathon (21.1km total length), the cross (7,2km total length), and the family race (roughly 3km total length).

All the races go through public roads, forest pathways, or unmarked mountain trails which will be adequately marked by the organizers. The start and finish will take place in the Muntele Băişorii in Muntele Mare, Cluj county.

  1. The ultramarathon will have 9 refreshment posts and 9 control posts.
  2. The ultramarathon will have 6 refreshment posts and 7 control posts.
  3. The half marathon will have 1 hydration post, 2 refreshment posts, and 4 control posts.
  4. The cross will have 1 hydration post and 2 control posts.
  5. The family race will have 1 hydration post and 1 control post.

PARTICIPATION

For the ultramarathon race, only individuals who have previously competed in long mountain races can participate, provided they are 18 or older. For the marathon, half marathon, and the cross races, individuals 16 and older can participate, provided they are medically able to sustain this level of effort. Minors (individuals between 16-18 years of age) can participate only if they provide the written consent of their guardian (meaning at least one parent or another person legally responsible for them). The consent must mention that the guardian explicitly agrees with the minor’s participation in one of the races, that they have read and understood the rules of the competition, and that they are aware of the potential risks. The guardian’s consent must be given to the organizers either as a legal document, or a hand-written agreement of the representative while present with the minor at the race kit pick up.

For the family race, minors under 15 have to be registered by their legal guardian (parent or other individual). If the legal guardian is not the parent, then further documentation that proves the individual is legally responsible for the minor will be needed, in the form of an official document or a handwritten form signed on the day of the race. Registering a minor for a race using an erroneous age is cause for elimination from the competition.

Each participant must sign their name in the participations registry, and an affidavit through which they state that they have been informed of the competition regulations, know and understand them, and undertake any potential risks of participating in the msg Maraton Apuseni. As a mountain competition, the organizers can only partly control any subsequent issues that may appear along the trails. As such, those willing to participate in the competition must demonstrate a higher degree of caution, not just in terms of training and performance, but also for adequate equipment needed for mountain running. This process will be done on the day the individual will pick up their official race kit.

The organizers reserve the right to prevent an individual from entering or continuing the race if they deem the person isn’t fit to do so. The reasoning behind this includes, but is not limited to: use of drugs or other psychoactive substances, visibly deteriorated health, physical or mental exhaustion, inappropriate equipment.
